A new way to style hearing aids

Back in 2022, we teamed up with international fashion designer, Jenni Ahtiainen, founder of Deafmetal®, to launch a hearing-aid-friendly jewellery collection in support of our LoveYourEars campaign.

A Limited Edition Collection

Our LoveYourEars Collection was created to normalise and celebrate the wearing of hearing aids in everyday life by helping people match their aids to their style.

So we’re incredibly proud to share the latest update on Deafmetal®.

Seven years after Jenni Ahtiainen first started wearing her hearing aids, and designing the accompanying jewellery that would be become Deafmetal®, Jenni has received the latest tribute to her innovation and creativity: her designs are being showcased at the V&A’s Design and Disability exhibition.

The V&A describes their exhibition as “a celebration and a call to action, showcasing the radical contributions of Disabled, Deaf, and neurodivergent people and communities to design history and contemporary culture, from the 1940s to now.”

Deafmetal’s® contribution to fighting against the stigma associated with hearing aids is still extremely relevant, with a recent survey from the RNID finding that 1 in 3 people would try and hide hearing aids if they needed them.

Jenni embraced hearing loss and her hearing aids – initially creating the jewellery to express her style. In turn, Deafmetal has helped reduce some of the old-fashioned perceptions of hearing aids that still persist toady.

In her own words :

“Everyone has a desire to leave something of themselves behind. Something meaningful… I managed to create something that’s important enough that the prestigious V&A wants to showcase it to the world. This selection is a dream come true for me as a designer. I never would have thought that losing my hearing would end up being one of the best things that’s ever happened to me - it led to my invention, and now also to this exhibition."

The exhibition runs from 7 June 2025–15 February 2026.
