Christmas is fast approaching and with families getting together in their Christmas 'bubbles', hearing each other at the dinner table is of upmost importance. You don’t want to miss out on the conversation. We have complied 5 tips to try and help you with your hearing this Christmas, read on to find out more!

1. Carefully chose where to sit

Where you sit at the table is important and could impact how you hear. The best place to sit would be with your back to the wall as this could help block out excessive background noise behind you.

2. Keep the volume low

Having music or TV on in the background may be enjoyable but competing background sounds can drown out your families voices, and could make your conversations more difficult to hear. Try removing the background noise altogether, or at least lower the volume considerably. This will enable you to focus more on the conversation instead of hearing excess noise.

3. Improve lighting

Those who suffer from hearing loss suffer in silence and try to compensate by reading the lips of whoever is speaking. But with low lighting, this becomes more difficult. If you improve your ability to see your families lips moving you will be able to better understand what is being said in the conversation. You could either turn the lights up or change your existing fixtures to shine more light at the dinner table.

4. Speak up

Instead of nodding along with the conversation you are struggling to follow, just be honest and ask your family to repeat what they have said. If you are a guest it wouldn't hurt to let your host know that you are having hearing challenges and let them know what they can do to help you keep up with the conversation.

5. Book a hearing test
