What should my loved one do next?
It is of course a sensitive subject, but if you think someone is suffering from hearing loss, try to support them and point them in the direction of someone that can help. Remember, Hidden Hearing is just a click or a call away.
Ultimately, there are three options for your friend or loved one:
-
1. Talk to a Hearing Aid Dispenser at a Hidden Hearing Centre
Our friendly, qualified staff are registered with the Health Professions Council and will offer your friend the best possible advice. This could include medical referral for an underlying condition (e.g. ear infection), or indeed they may tell the person their hearing is not yet bad enough to warrant any further action.
You or your loved one may wish to use our branch locator to find your nearest Hidden Hearing Centre, where we offer free hearing tests and professional advice.
-
2. Talk to their G.P
Their doctor will be able to talk to them about their hearing loss, and may either examine them or refer them to their local hospital’s audiology department.
-
3. Do nothing
Ultimately, your friend or loved one has the right to decide what is best for them, and of course they may choose not to act on their hearing loss at all. You can only advise speaking to somebody - and may want to remind them that hearing losses can be a symptom of something else (e.g. glue ear).
Remember, they can book a consultation at their nearest Hidden Hearing branch, or contact us via the website or call 0800 740 8706.
