Behind the Ear (BTE)
Behind the ear hearing aids are the most widely used hearing aids in the UK. You may have seen other people using this type of hearing aid as they are more commonly prescribed by the NHS. BTE Hearing aids are preferred where the client needs more power and/or would like to use the additional features often found; such as;
- Volume control - you will be able to vary the overall volume heard through the instrument
- Program button - you can navigate through different listening programs (if the hearing aid has them) as and when required
- Telecoils - also known as a 'T' switch or a loop system, you can benefit from an inductive loop field where used (more commonly used in churches, post offices & banks)
Many of our customers also find a BTE hearing sytem easier to handle with larger batteries for a longer life. Also; their design allows various 'add ons' to be used (where available/appropriate) like FM systems and direct audio input. Both of these accessories can help enormously in situations where clarity in background noise is essential.
Because of their design and their location on the ear (i.e. behind it), BTE hearing aids can be more reliable* and possibly last longer* than some other styles of hearing aids. Some BTEs can also be adapted to attach to the sides of your spectacles adding to comfort and ease of use.
Ask your Hearing Aid Dispenser which would be the most suitable for you.
*Depending on amount of time used and exposure to extremes of temperature, moisture, etc.
