What type of wireless technology is available in today’s hearing aids?

24/11/2011

Wireless technology is becoming more popular in a number of household items these days, with hearing aids being no exception.  Wireless connectivity in hearing aids allows them to act together as one complete unit, meaning sound input to both aids is shared and decisions about the digital sound processing are based on combined information.

What other benefits does wireless hearing aid technology offer users?
Improved convenience – if a programme button or volume control is changed on one aid, it is automatically changed on the other.  It is possible to ‘disable’ these functions on one aid, allowing both to be operated by controls on the other aid, meaning less fiddling around for the user.

Bluetooth connectivity – wireless technology allows hearings aids to be connected to other devices such as televisions and mobile phones, allowing for furthermore ease of communication.
