Ear wax (or Cerumen) is a natural occurring substance which plays an important part in cleaning your ear.
As ear wax travels around the ear canal, it collects dead skin, debris and bacteria which in time will find its way out the ear. Using cotton buds to clean your ear only pushes it back inside. Note – cotton buds should never be used for cleaning your ears, the wax will naturally work its way out of the ear and any wax visible on the outer ear can simply be washed away with a damp cloth.
Some people blame a loss of hearing on ear wax, however it is very rare that a buildup of wax alone would be that bad to affect the sounds we hear.
Treatments for excessive ear wax includes syringing and drops. Both are painless activities which should tickle at the most.
If you are concerned about your hearing, book a hearing test with us today. If there is a buildup of ear wax we will simply refer you to your GP surgery to have it removed.
