Thurrock Young Citizen’s Grandfather Receives Gift of Hearing

A local pensioner got a welcomed surprise when he accompanied his granddaughter to the opening of the new Health Village from Lloydspharmacy at Lakeside Retail Park recently.

Mr. Jack Button, 80, grandfather of Thurrock Young Citizen Civic Award winner, Kayleigh Merchant, was offered a free state-of-the-art hearing aid system and can now look forward to better hearing this New Year, thanks to hearing healthcare provider, Hidden Hearing. 

Leading experts in hearing healthcare, Hidden Hearing is one of the partners providing healthcare and wellbeing services at the new Health Village at Lakeside Retail Park. The new facilities mean that local residents in the Thurrock area will now have convenient and immediate access to a registered hearing aid dispenser for all their hearing health needs.

Hearing aid dispenser, Mustafa Usman, has prescribed Mr. Button a state of the art hearing aid system and he will not be asked to pay a penny. Mustafa said: “As our very first customer at Health Village, we wanted to offer Mr. Button a hearing assessment whilst he was waiting for his granddaughter. With test results confirming he needed assistance with hearing, we decided to offer Mr Button a new hearing aid system which will allow him to hear better in a variety of different listening situations. In addition, Mr. Button will be invited back into Health Village every six months for a free check-up to ensure his hearing aid is working well for him. We’re delighted this small gesture will help to improve his quality of life in some way.”

Mr. Button said: “I was accompanying Kayleigh at the official opening of Health Village and thought I’d take advantage of a free hearing test while I was waiting. I have been having trouble hearing clearly over the years and my family have even commented on how loud the television is when they visited but I just never got round to getting tested. I never thought that a visit to Health Village would result in me getting a free hearing aid, it’s very kind of them and I’m grateful. It takes a bit of getting used to but it’s certainly helped improved my hearing – my family don’t have to shout when talking to me anymore!”
