New hearing aid worn in your mouth

21/03/2011

Technology advances see the introduction of a hearing aid which transmits sound via your teeth.  The appropriately named SoundBite transmits sound through the jawbone and into the inner ear. SoundBite is custom made and is placed on one of the upper molars.

How does it work?

Traditional hearing aids use air conduction to increase the level of sound traveling through the air whereas SoundBite transmits sound via bone conduction.
1.  Tiny microphones placed behind the impaired ear pick up sound from the environment cancelling out the noise
2.  The sound is transmitted wirelessly to the prosthetic in the mouth
3.  The device sends vibrations through the teeth and bones directly to the cochlea, bypassing the middle and outer ear

There are thousands of people suffering from a hearing loss in the UK which do not wear a hearing aid.  Reasons for this vary, but one is down to cosmetic appearance.

Hidden Hearing are proud to supply a wide range of hearing aids, many of which are very discreet and can hardly be seen by others.  One example of this is called SoundLens.  SoundLens sits further inside the ear canal meaning that it is invisible when worn and no one will ever know you are wearing a hearing aid.  To see if you are suitable for SoundLens, or to book an appointment for a hearing test, book online now or call 0800 740 8706.
