How to tell if you have a hearing loss?
While only a professional can determine the exact nature and extent of a hearing loss, there are ways to help you tell if hearing has become a problem in your life. It helps to stop and consider your hearing objectively, as most hearing losses occur gradually, and the symptoms are often difficult to recognise.
Early signs of diminished hearing:
- Saying “what?” or “pardon?” frequently
- You feel isolated and struggle to follow conversations in social gatherings
- Turning up the volume on the TV/radio louder than others prefer
- Frequent misunderstandings when talking on the telephone
- People seem to often be mumbling or speaking quietly
- A loved one or colleague has expressed concern about your hearing
If you experience any of these problems regularly, it’s probably a good time to have a professional consultation.
