What A Hearing Test Involves
A hearing test is free
A hearing test with Hidden Hearing is free and without obligation, and the results will quickly tell you whether you might benefit from a hearing aid.
We always advise, wherever possible you bring along a relative or close friend as they can often play a key role in the hearing test.

The hearing test
A thorough hearing test takes about an hour. Our experienced Hearing Aid Audiologist will carry out a number of important checks, using specialist equipment that will measure what you can and can’t hear. You’ll be able to see the results for yourself, and if desired, take away with you.
During the test, you have ample opportunity to discuss the types of situation which concern you most. For some people, it’s hearing speech in noisy situations. For others, it’s making yourself unpopular by turning up the TV too loud.
We will measure your hearing ability across a range of frequencies at different noise levels. From this, we can identify the types of technology that could help to sharpen your hearing. |

The key steps
You will be asked about your lifestyle, your current hearing ability, your hearing history, and any concerns you have about your hearing.
The Hearing Aid Audiologist will give both your ears a thorough examination. This may involve the use of a Video Otoscope (currently only available in our branches) that will enable you to see deep inside your ear showing any build-up of wax.
To measure your hearing response, we carry out an audiometric test using an audiometer. This will produce an audiogram that will show you the extent of any hearing loss.
This is followed by a speech clarity check, and it can help if you have a relative or close friend with you for this part of the consultation. |

The results
If your hearing test reveals that you have a hearing loss, our Hearing Aid Audiologist will offer practical advice and suggest which system would be best to help you improve your hearing.
If you do not require a hearing aid at the moment, we will tell you so, offer advice and arrange a follow-up consultation in about a year’s time.
If your problem requires medical help, we write to your doctor informing them of our findings. |
